Today abruptly I remembered an old forgotten promise. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not me that has forgot only my precious hubby. He was going to buy me a Chess set. It was the most stunning chess set, that i saw in the show window of an secondhand shop. It’s table was created of a marble type material and its pieces were of bronze and silver. King, Queen, Rook, Knight, Bishop and Pawn, they all appeared so genuine, included with swords and crowns. It was love at first view.
That chess set made me fall in love. Unfortunately we moved out of the city and forgot about it. But some day I will be sure that my husband keeps his promise and then I will write how I made him assure to buy me that exact chess set.
Chess sets arrive in numerous makes and varieties. Years ago I used to like to view the chess sets that were available in a department store in Center City, Philadelphia. The chess sets were molds of art and were held under a counter behind a wall. Each chess set exhibited there had a different style. Most sets were rather expensive. The chessmen were constructed of many unique materials, and did not resemble the chess pieces I possessed in my personal inexpensive plastic chess set.
Sometimes it appeared as if you would have experienced trouble really playing chess with a themed chess set, since it would have been hard to figure out which pieces were which after you started to propel them around the board. I was never for certain if the individuals who can afford to purchase these chess sets would really have employed them in the game. But the various pieces and fashions of chess boards were often beautiful, and I would have loved to have been competent to afford to purchase one of them.
One of the finest chess sets that I have ever saw was crafted by an artist that my elder brother lived with. It possessed a beautiful wooden board and the pieces were of moulded pewter. This was such a neat set not entirely for the artistry but also for the idea of the chess set, which appeared like something from the Lord of the Rings picture, full-blown with wizards, dragons, dwarfs, elves and medieval looking castles.
The one set of chess pieces were electro copper plated, while the opponent chessmen were the colouring of the pewter. I never was able to use it, but I did have the joy of putting it up at the fine art exhibits where my sister would try to sell their bosses work.
